Description

School of Rock West Seattle provides both in-person and online music lessons for students of all ages. Our programs, camps and workshops for toddlers, kids, teens and adults make learning to play music fun and create great communities of musicians. School of Rock is the leader in performance-based music education. We combine one-on-one drum, bass, keyboard, vocal, and guitar lessons with group practices. Students learn to play music from day one and put on live performances at local venues. Our experienced instructors are local musicians themselves who combine the performance-based School of Rock Method and programs with individual music lessons to get results for your student.

  • Phil Gustavson

    General Manager

    Phil Gustavson has been a School of Rock staff member since 2008. His guitar playing has stretched from filling in with local bands at venues like The Triple Door and The Showbox to touring the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia with Argentenian tango singer and actress Ruth De Vicenzo. His most recent original work was with the Gypsy Jazz Quintet Hochiwichi.

  • Steve Ross

    Guitar Instructor

    Steve is a founding member of the acclaimed punk band The Briefs as well as the 90's alt rock group Green Apple Quick Step. His music has been featured on national television shows including Conan O'Brien, America's Next Top Model and Beavis and Butthead, among others. He has shared the stage with bands like Pearl Jam and NOFX and has played many festivals including Warped Tour, Bumbershoot and Punk Rock Bowling.

  • Ben Haber

    Bass Instructor

    Ben Haber has played bass professionally for several years in practically every type of ensemble from pit orchestras to wedding bands. Through his work with his folk rock outfit, "The Hasslers", he has shared the stage with many national touring acts including Blitzen Trapper, The Cave Singers, Langhorne Slim and The Law, and Jason Isbell. Ben studied bass guitar privately for 8 years but has also dabbled in lessons on guitar, piano, voice and upright bass. A recent transplant to the Seattle area, Ben is incredibly eager to start a teaching studio and continue to rock!

  • Harry Snyder

    Drum Instructor

    Harry has a passion for percussion, computers, and working with audio video systems. Musically oriented since birth, his parents were musicians and had a variety of drums and equipment to learn on. During high school, he was the drum tech on the drum line as well as working as an audio tech during assemblies, managing the PA set up and the audio for the drama department during plays and other events like battle of the bands. Since then he has volunteered helping a/v at various festivals, worked with Snowflake Lane as a leader and performer, and played percussion in various local marching bands

  • Nick Greatrex

    Guitar Instructor

    As English as a great cup of tea, Nick made the move to Seattle 3 years ago after 3 national tours of the US with his Cork, Ireland-based alternative rock band The Voodoos. Classically trained, he began playing guitar from an early age before going on to play and open the 2011 MTV EMA awards in Belfast and the Shiprocked Rock cruise in the same year. Nick has also taught in many international schools during his time in Spain, as well as touring parts of Europe.

  • Carl Germain

    Guitar, Bass & Keyboard Instructor

    Carl has been a School of Rock staff member since 2012. He comes from a musical family, and has since collaborated with musicians including Bill Rieflin (R.E.M., King Crimson), Trey Gunn (King Crimson), Petra Haden (The Decemberists), Julie Slick (Adrian Belew Power Trio), and many others. Carl has been involved in Robert Fripp's Guitar Craft since 2009, which greatly influenced his approach to music instruction and led to performances in the US, Europe, and South America with the Orchestra of Crafty Guitarists. Currently Carl plays in several groups including Echo Ravine (former Band of Horses members) and Eggshells, and performs ambient music in the vein of Brian Eno.

  • Aimee Zoe

    Keyboard & Vocal Instructor

    Aimee Zoe is a drummer and vocalist about town. She can be found throwin' down a wide variety of grooves with various projects in Seattle and beyond including Jackrabbit, Ian McFeron Band, Jealous Dogs: Seattle's Only Pretenders Tribute, Sam Russell and MoZo.

  • Trevor Ridge

    Keyboard & Vocal Instructor

    Trevor Lee Ridge has been studying and teaching music for over 12 years, receiving degrees from The Musician's Institute in Los Angeles and locally from Cornish College of the Arts. He is a professional singer, guitarist, keyboardist, and producer having performed and recorded in Europe, South America, Australia, and throughout the U.S. Specializing in vocal instruction, live performance, piano & amp; keyboards, and all manner of guitars, Trevor has a depth of experience of bringing out the best in all ages and learning styles.

  • Jacob de Vrieze

    Guitar Instructor

    Jacob de Vrieze was born and raised in West Seattle and always enjoyed listening to rock music. At age 11 he became interested in constructing electric guitars from parts and learning everything he could about playing them as well. Now he can frequently be found playing bass with The Fame Riot at festivals and other venues around Washington State. He also sings lead vocals, and plays guitar for the local band, Galaxy.

  • Ana Carita Mon

    Vocal/Keyboard Instructor

    Ana-Carita is a contemporary violinist/vocalist who hails from BC, Canada. Around the age of 13, Ana was witness to a live show of Nigel Kennedy riffing on the violin with reinterpretations of Jimi Hendrix at the Orpheum with the VSO in Vancouver, BC. From this a seed was planted, and after several years of dedicated practice in classical studies Ana was invited to study with Lorand Fenyves at the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, where Ana gleaned the last out of her classical training. Ana began to pursue contemporary music and jazz, taking private voice lessons with Colin Doroschuk (Men Without Hats) and through the Contemporary Music & Technology Program in Nelson, BC. Feeding on musical diversity and versatility, Ana has collaborated with electronic, hip-hop, techno/dancehall, funk, folk and punk-rock artists and producers as a violinist, arranger, and singer/songwriter.

  • Greg Wood

    Studio Coordinator

    Greg moved to Seattle from the mediocre state of Tennessee in 2016, and has worked at School of Rock since June of 2016. He is the studio coordinator and also teaches guitar and bass. He is the singer, guitarist, and main songwriter of his band Highest of Heels, and hopes he can get his Billy Joel cover band the Non-Arsonists off the ground sometime in 2018. He has seen the Melvins live 13 times.
