The Emergency & Trauma Center at Harborview Medical Center, located in First Hill near downtown Seattle, is staffed by board-certified emergency medicine physicians and highly trained emergency nurses who provide compassionate, expert adult and pediatric emergency care to all in need, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. As the only Level I adult and pediatric trauma and verified burn center in Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho, and the first certified comprehensive stroke center in Washington, Harborview's Emergency Department is staffed and resourced to care for patients of all ages with all types of critical physical and mental illness, injury or crisis with ready access to a wide range of specialists. Harborview’s Level I designation, issued by the Washington State Department of Health, recognizes that Harborview consistently meets stringent care standards and has the resources and expertise to care for seriously ill or injured patients, from resuscitation through rehabilitation. As a Level I trauma center, Harborview also provides leadership in injury prevention programs, teaching, community outreach, and education.
